ANDERSON CHOSEN TO COACH
HALL OF FAME CLASSIC
Woodland High School Coach Chris Anderson has been selected to coach the New Haven County All Stars vs the Fairfield County All Stars, in the 11th Annual Hall of Fame Classic football game scheduled for Friday July 13 at 7:30PM at West Haven High School.
No stranger to the game, Anderson has been an assistant the past two years, first for Dennis Wanzie of Wilbur Cross in 2005 and last year for Mike DeVito of Amity. New Haven County has won 7 of the 10 games played including the last 4 in a row. New Haven County had a 25-14 victory over Fairfield County last year.
Woodland has only had a varsity football program since 2003. Since then the Hawks have achieved a remarkable 38-8 record, with 2 NVL Championships and 2 Class SS State Championships. A former All State player for Derby, Anderson was an assistant for Joe Benanto and the Shelton Gaels from 1995-2001, when they won 2 State titles.
Bill O’Brien President of the New Haven County Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame stated, “We are thrilled to have Chris Anderson as our coach for this year’s game. He is a bright young man is very organized and very dedicated. We know our team will be extremely well prepared to play this game”.
“I am extremely honored to be selected as the Head Coach for the New Haven County All Stars for 2007”, said Anderson, “ We have a very difficult task ahead of us in preparing for Fairfield County, but my staff and I will work diligently to make our team as ready as possible.”
Anderson will be assisted by Woodland assistants Tim Shea, Tim Phippps and Adam Schultz, along with Jeff Roy of Shelton, Dennis Wanzie of Wilbur Cross, Alex Velardi of North Haven and Peter Griffen of Hamden Hall.
The roster for New Haven County will be announced shortly. Tickets for the game can be purchased for $5.00 in advance by sending a check to Hall of Fame Classic c/o Paul Criscuolo, Chairman, 110 Damascus Rd., Branford, Ct. 06405. Tickets purchased at the gate will cost $7.00.
